Upon starting up Windows Vista I received an error message "Status Monitor 3 Environment Check stopped working and was closed". This can be frighteneing because it could mean that motherboard monitors were not working and the board could overheat. After some digging I found that this referred to an Epson printer driver that monitors the ink supply. I was using the driver supplied by Windows Vista but apparently the driver was updated by Epson to solve this problem. Windows Update did not report the change possibly because the printer is located on an XP machine and is accessed remotely from the Vista machine. Installing the new driver downloaded from Epson got rid of the error message. I use an R340 inkjet but this problem probably occurs with other Epson printers.
