There are multiple ways to reach Brookside Gardens from the Capital Beltway. The simplest is to take the Georgia Avenue exit and go north to Randolph Road. Turn right to go east on Randolph Road and turn right onto Glenallan Avenue at the second traffic light. However, the traffic on Georgia Avenue is quite heavy. Following are alternate routes that are somewhat less congested:
From the inner loop of the Capital Beltway driving east.
1. Take the exit for Connecticut Avenue north towards Kensington. There is a single exit ramp for both directions on Connecticut Ave.
2. Turn left from the exit ramp onto Connecticut Avenue. Stay on that road and pass through Kensington.
3. University Boulevard splits off to the right. Stay in the left lanes to continue on Connecticut Avenue.
4. After passing Viers Mill Road turn right at the next light and follow Randolph Road going east.
5. After passing Georgia Avenue turn right onto Glenallan Avenue (the second traffic light after Georgia Ave.) and follow that road to the four way stop sign. The entrance to the visitor center is on the right. Drive up to the gate (which will be closed) and it will open automatically when it detects your vehicle.
6. If the visitor center parking lot is full return to Glenallan Avenue and try one of the other parking lots shown on the map below.
From the outer loop of the Capital Beltway driving west.
1. Take the exit for University Boulevard going north.
2. Continue along University Boulevard across Route 29 at Four Corners.
3. Turn right at the traffic light for Arcola Avenue.
4. Take Arcola Avenue to the traffic light at Kemp Mill Road. Turn right to follow that road north.
5. Turn left onto Glenallan Avenue and follow that road to the four way stop sign. The entrance to the visitor center is on the left. Drive up to the gate (which will be closed) and it will open automatically when it detects your vehicle.
6. If the visitor center parking lot is full return to Glenallan Avenue and try one of the other parking lots shown on the map below.
If all the parking lots off of Glenallan Avenue are full park at the picnic grounds for the Wheaton Regional Park and walk to the gardens via a paved trail.
Don't forget to bring your camera.
